Claude was born in 1982 in Ermelo, a small town in South Africa.
He spent his youth fishing, cycling, hiking and camping and remembers clearly how he used to wonder what life was like on the savanna plains when he was about 12 years old before his career choices led him to a fast-paced life in the hospitality industry in England and the Middle East.
Every time he heard Johnny Clegg’s song, Scatterlings of Africa, his heart ached – until he eventually found his way back to the Sabi Sand Reserve to manage hospitality. Finally he enrolled for a Singita course in 2011 to become a competent, qualified field guide with knowledge of geology, animal behavior and plant identification. Besides handling hospitality at Singita Castleton, he and his wife, Marinda, enjoy being guides, escorting guests at every opportunity. No longer do they yearn to be close to nature. They live there.
