Field Guide, Grumeti, Serengeti

Gerald Alexander Maliti was born and grew up in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. Gerald studied at Mandaka Primary School, Maua Seminary and Kilimanjaro High School during his early education.

Gerald went on to gain a Diploma in Wildlife Management at Mweka College in Moshi. Furthermore, Gerald achieved a BSc in Wildlife Science at the University of Dar es Salaam.

Gerald has been guiding with Singita since 2014. He has had much experience within the safari industry including working with the Tanzania Wildlife Corporation (TAWICO) and the Game Division of Tanzania for 11 years. He has also worked as a Field Guide with Selous Safari Company in the Selous Game Reserve and Ruaha National Park for four years before arriving here at Singita Grumeti Reserve.

“When I completed secondary school, I worked temporarily with the Marangu Hotel as a porter for Mount Kilimanjaro climbers. During this time I was inspired to become a nature guide because it seemed to be a golden opportunity to share knowledge with different people from all over the world.  I have climbed Mount Kilimanjaro successfully in the years 1988 and 1999.

My favourite animal is the Giraffe because it is the pride of Tanzania and indeed, I am very proud to be Tanzanian!

The most exciting sighting I think I have ever had whilst guiding is when I saw a Lioness and male Leopard resting in the same tree!!”
