Francis Amos Gagiri

Field Guide, Grumeti, Lamai

Francis was born in 1981 in Itununu village in the Serengeti district of Tanzania, a village so small, it’s difficult to find.

He has enjoyed exploring the bush since his boyhood, always watchful for his favorite animal, the leopard. He grew up close to game reserves throughout his school career and he gladly accepted a position shortly after Singita Grumeti Fund was established, working as a security guard initially. In 2007, he was appointed assistant guide and subsequently he benefitted from the excellent 6-month training course which helped him to grow in knowledge, confidence and experience. In 2011 he became a fully fledged field guide which means he has gained more than 10 years experience at Singita Grumeti.

Francis’ love of nature and conservation intensified as he witnessed firsthand how the fragile ecosystem of the previously neglected wilderness was stabilized and once again became home to immense migrating herds.
