Calson Luka

Field Guide, Grumeti, Lamai

According to Calson, he gained much of his practical knowledge about nature from school tours and friends while growing up in Northern Tanzania. His fellow safari guides was another source of information while he received on-the-job training as a guide in the Selous Game Reserve, Arusha, and at Singita Grumeti.

With a glint in his eye, Calson declares that he has spiced up his East African abilities with some Southern African flavor. Besides his certificate from the Okavango Guiding School, he has built up an impressive skill set: tracking, birding, photography, ethics of conservation, geology and animal behavior – he is also quick to point out his extensive experience in guiding families on safari.

When asked about his favorite animal, he gets a dreamy look as he explains that elephants have always amazed him which is why he is interested in the major role they play in the macro ecosystem.
