Benson Mboya

Field Guide, Grumeti, Lamai

If you should travel to the foothills of the magnificent and majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, you may chance upon an area with tropical forests, waterfalls and coffee plantations. At an elevation of 2,000 meters, you’ll discover the quaint village of Marangu; a small village where the climate is cooler and more humid. This is where Benson was born in 1986.

Whether it was the clear waterfalls nearby, the pleasant weather or the strong coffee that inspired him, nobody knows, but one thing is certain: Benson was determined to become a guide. First he gained a diploma in Wildlife Management; then he continued his education and qualified as a guide at the Mwewe Training College and in December 2016 he finally reached another goal: to join Singita. He is proud to tell all and sundry about his natural heritage and he has an almost inexplicably deep affinity for animals – and caffeine.
