Jani Lourens

Field Guide, Kruger National Park

Jani was raised on a cattle farm in North West Province, South Africa.

She was always fascinated by creatures she discovered as she explored every rock, crevice and outcrop. While working on a wildlife breeding farm, she’d take friends on game drives which soon made her realize that she wanted to work closer to nature. Eventually this goal landed her a volunteer position in the Klasserie and Timbavati Private Game Reserve and on the Southern Ground Hornbill project, hanging from branches to secure artificial nests or climbing tall ladders to check on nesting sites. She joined Singita Kruger National Park in 2013.

Besides gathering qualifications including FGASA Level 2, Savanna Biome specialist, Tracks & Signs Level 3 and Tracker Level 2, she is an extremely keen hiker and she is currently studying for her Private Fixed Wing Pilot’s license, intending to either walk or fly all over Africa.
