Born and bred in South Africa’s Free State province, Gert grew up on a small farm, and his love for the outdoors was apparent from an early age. He could hardly wait to finish his schooling to pursue his dream of living in the bush. After completing an EcoTraining Guide Training Course, where he was mentored by Henry Parsons and Quintin Swanevelder (who are now his colleagues), Gert kicked off his career as a guide in the north of the Kruger National Park. From there, he moved to the Sabi Sand, which enabled him to often track and observe two of his favourite animals – wild dogs and leopards, before joining Singita Kruger National Park’s team of Field Guides. Gert loves tracking, hiking and birding, and is a passionate photographer too.
